Our client, a specialized chemical trading company, is seeking a Director of Business Development to lead commercial growth by driving new customer acquisitions, expanding strategic accounts, and overseeing core sales operations. This role acts as the primary commercial leader within the organization, working closely with executive leadership to align strategic direction with daily operational execution. Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead new-business development efforts, including identifying market opportunities, securing new customers and suppliers, and conducting market and competitive analysis.
- Drive commercial negotiations, lead customer presentations, and maintain a qualified pipeline of new business with regular reporting.
- Manage and grow key customer accounts by developing account strategies, increasing sales and profitability, introducing new products, and strengthening long-term partnerships.
- Oversee supplier and partner communications, manage pricing and supply negotiations, and ensure strategic alignment with executive leadership.
- Supervise core sales operations, including pipeline management, sales reporting, customer service coordination, and budgeting activities.
- Provide onboarding, training, and ongoing coaching to new sales and customer service staff, defining clear processes and performance expectations.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in B2B sales, business development, or account management; experience in technical product industries such as nutraceuticals or food ingredients is preferred.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, and communication skills, with Japanese–English bilingual ability welcomed.
- Deep understanding of sales, marketing, and commercial business processes.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and team-development abilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field (Marketing or Finance preferred).
- Ability to travel domestically for customer visits, trade shows, and partner meetings.
